You drop a mug, you break a plate… after the wear and tear of daily life, it's normal for household ceramics to end off worse for wear, chipped, cracked, or simply in pieces. So we enlisted ceramist 

, to show us how even broken dishes have more life to give.

From a quick mug fix to a stand-out mosaic table, Rachel teaches us how to restore and up-cycle old ceramics into beautiful new forms. Watch, learn, and redesign.


1. Cover broken edge with glue or epoxy
2. Place pieces together, lining up perfectly
3. Secure with tape and let sit for 24 hours


1. Smash broken ceramics in a cloth with a hammer, wearing gloves and goggles. Smash until pieces are small enough that they can lie flat.

2. Lay out the pieces, making sure you have enough to cover the surface area.

3. Brush the mortar over the surface, fully covering it.

Lay out the pieces in your preferred design.

Clean off with a sponge to reveal the tiles.
