To our Community,
When we started Kotn, we set out to build a business differently—a design-minded brand that put people, especially those in marginalized communities, first. By circumstance, we started that journey in Egypt, where we saw first-hand the injustices that people in the garment and farming industry faced every day.
While we are proud of the work we do, these past few weeks have illustrated the incredibly important work that is still needed right here at home.
We are a company that believes and invests in education, and it’s time we better educate ourselves. There is no quick fix—meaningful results don’t occur overnight, so we are taking the time to learn (and unlearn), to research, and to work hard to establish actionable solutions that will both create short-term and long-term change for the Black, Indigenous and People of Colour in our community and in our company.
As a start, we have made donations to organizations that are leading the way including Black Visions Collective, ACLU, and Minnesota Freedom Fund, and art matching all donations made from our team. If you would like to do the same, you can find a list of American organizations here and Canadian here.
If you are interested in learning with us, we’ve created an extensive list of educational resources for our team, which you can find here. We are no way the authority here, so we welcome any additions and feedback! Simply email us at email@example.com
History has taught us that moments of change only happen when we all rise up and demand it. It doesn’t matter what we look like or where we live, this is one community. Let’s start treating it like one.
