Planning Manager

About the role:

Kotn is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Finance team, where you will help us understand our business in the present and plan for our growth in the future. You will manage demand planning, forecasting and ordering across our assortment. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical individual who has deep expertise modelling in Excel, as well as experience in other analysis tools and frameworks. Applicants should have expertise in merchandise planning, and be able to leverage and analyze data to work with and make accurate projections. You will be responsible for an efficient inventory turnover and ROI. Our products rarely go on sale, so we face unique challenges with every category that we purchase into. You will collaborate with production, logistics, retail and finance, so the ability to communicate clearly and develop strong relationships across departments is critical.

The ideal candidate is a highly analytical and curious self-starter who is excited to identify interesting problems, share insights, and execute against solutions. You learn quickly, work well cross-functionally and will roll up your sleeves to get the job done. This role reports directly to the CEO.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop financial plans by sales channel, product type and category
  • Build out planning function with a focus on optimizing inventory flow, taking into account had times, shipment quantities and safety stock targets. Create strategies to optimize supply chain capabilities and constantly identify new opportunities for improvement
  • Forecast sales with both top down and bottom up approaches, while collaborating closely with all departments
  • Generate purchase orders down to SKU-level with incredible precision and accuracy
  • Project sales volumes for existing and upcoming products to support replenishment and new launch buys
  • Understand the levers that affect inventory and anticipate business spikes related to seasonal trends and marketing and promotion efforts
  • Enhance existing inventory models to improve forecast accuracy and inventory turnover
  • Collaborate with production and logistics to ensure optimal inventory flows
  • Perform a variety of analyses to improve understanding of business trends and opportunities
  • Work with design and merchandising to inform decisions about new product offerings
  • Work closely with Supply Chain to ensure accessory, packaging and collateral procurement is aligned with product purchasing

Experience you’ll need:

  • 3-6 years of relevant experience in planning, demand forecasting, inventory analysis or comparable roles 
  • Self-starter who thrives in fast paced environments that requires multi-tasking, prioritization and minimal oversight
  • Top notch analytical skills and ability to break down complex issues into structured frameworks and actionable insights
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Advanced competency in Excel with best-in-class financial modelling skills 
  • A professional who has an air of confidence and isn’t afraid to let their personality come out
  • Someone able to anticipate risks and propose practical plans to diffuse them
